Today is Day 1 of FIP treatment and so begins the journey! I’m sad but hopeful, scared but happy, worried but grateful. Le sigh.
May 1 –
The Warriors:
Contact with the Warriors group was made a couple days ago and I couldn’t be any more thankful! They are absolutely spectacular. Yes they make you go through a few hoops and rightfully so, but the process was not bad at all. Make a post, take some pictures, video’s, submit some blood results, and talk it over with the team I got assigned. After the process is complete and we got accepted, we picked a brand and got directed to the website for the order, and this is where it gets even better.
They run the tightest ship I’ve seen in quite some time. There level of care for cats is by far unmatched! Super professional doesn’t even begin to describe it. After my order got put in, they found an emergency stash of medication close to me, did all the behind the scenes stuff, and got me in contact with them. I drove there and picked it up, with all the necessary equipment needed to give the medication. My GF and I couldn’t be any happier with the Warriors, they should be called the Angels!
We raced back home, and by midnight she had received her first dose of medication. The process was not pretty, so be warned. This stuff is almost pure acid, so the pain is brutal, and we had to really ask ourselves if it was worth it, but we pressed on knowing that the science doesn’t lie, and the thousands of cats saved directly because of this medication is what we have to cling on to during the process.
It was brutal, especially never giving medication like this before, there was a very steep learning curve we had to overcome. I was a wreck afterwards, and my GF turned gray and almost fainted, but the end result would be worth it, or so we hoped!
FIP Treatment Notes:
Cat lethargic, belly swelling further every day, she is not eating much at all but drinking water. Staying low to the ground. Will jump up on the couch but sits in the same spot all the time. Will not eat if the other cat doesn’t. Does not trust her own judgement. Misses the litter box and pees on the floor. Poop sticks to her butt and needs to be cleaned. Barely any energy. 5lbs in weight with a 16″ belly. Very skinny, mostly skin and bones. Spine protruding. Walking fine today, eyes clear, same color and size, third eye-lid not showing. Pee is bright yellow, and dehydrated.
Midnight – 2.4 kg – 1ml of 15mg/ml of medicine (The most stable)
Watched 20 youtube videos of how to SubQ inject meds to a cat
First 3 attempts drew air, had to abort
Last one there was resistance, injected
Used a 20Ga to pull from the vial, and 25Ga to inject, very slow to inject
Cat screamed violently and tried biting, but she was easily subdued as she is very weak
Her bites are like kisses, unable to exert any pressure with her jaw
Belly diameter @ 16″
